The influence process in the municipal elections

The situation

Various district water boards were keen to get the water theme on the agenda of the municipalities in their management areas. The concrete goal was to include a passage on water in the election programmes of all the parties involved. The idea was that the passage would specify all the most important local water tasks and attention points.

Our contribution

We sat down and wrote a strategic plan for the district water boards. The plan outlined in detail how the executive and official lines would be deployed to get the water theme and the related tasks onto the political agendas of the municipalities. We also formulated the goal of including a passage on water in the coalition agreements, as well as mention of collaboration with the district water boards. We then formulated a strategy for the latter goal as well.

The result

Twelve of the seventeen municipalities have adopted the “water” theme in their political programmes. The members of the daily management are also closely engaged in active discussions on how to intensify the cooperation over the next four years.
